In north west Leicestershire, near Coalville, was Snibston Discovery Park. Built on a former coal mine it had lots of hands on science and technology attractions, an activity playground, train rides on a former colliery line and a small collection of historic vehicles and light aircraft.
My kids loved it. I had long known it was there as the bus company I worked for did some promotions with them back in the 90’s. But had never been to it. Indeed that companies first historic minibus, dating from 1985, was part of the collection. You can see it on the left of the photo.
The main bus is a Leicester City Transport 1958 Leyland PD3 with a body, which was built by Willowbrook in nearby Loughborough.
Emma, then aged 3, is standing next to this bus with a big grin. Daddy had suggested he take a photo of her next to the BIG bus.
Sadly as I write in 2020, Snibston had to permanently close down.
